Agriculture

CombineAgriculture is and has traditionally been the base on which most other activities in the REDA area rely on. The presence of mixed farming within the region has stabilized cash flow during years of low grain prices and raising livestock which are exported for processing.

The value-added and diversification industries are proving to be areas of major potential and opportunity for the residents, businesses and communities within the Red Coat region. The term, 'value-added' refers to any processing which can be done before selling an item. That additional processing increases the selling price, thereby providing a potentially larger return. 'Diversification' can mean different things to different people. Some examples of diversification are: moving from straight grain to mixed farming, producing alternative crops rather than traditional crops and alternative use of the land (i.e. for game farming).
